Important Update for Caregivers: Delaware Paid Family & Medical Leave Contributions Begin March 2, 2025

Effective March 2, 2025, all eligible Caregivers will be required to participate in the Delaware Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program through payroll deductions. This state-mandated program provides paid leave for qualifying medical and family-related events.

Caregiver Contribution Breakdown

The total contribution rate is 0.8% of wages, shared between the employer and the employee:

  • Medical Leave – 0.4%
  • Parental Leave – 0.32%
  • Family Caregiving & Qualified Exigency Leave – 0.08%

As part of this program:
✓ The company will cover 50% of the total contribution.

Example Deduction for Caregivers

If a Caregiver’s weekly wage is $400, the total contribution would be $1.60 (0.4% of $400), deducted each pay period.
Contributions are capped at the Social Security taxable wage base of $176,100 for 2025, meaning the maximum annual contribution for a Caregiver will be $704.40.

This program ensures that caregivers have financial support when they need to take leave for medical, parental, or family caregiving reasons.
